Privacy notice

How Silvertime Legal collects, uses and stores your personal information, and what rights you have over it. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

Who we are

Silvertime Legal is a trading name of Silvertime Legal Ltd, company number 15499649, registered office 115–116 Spon End, Coventry, England, CV1 3HF. We are the data controller for the information described in this notice, and we are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number ZB942014.

Questions about this notice, or about your information, go to our data protection lead: write to Silvertime Legal, Eliot Park Innovation Centre, 4 Barling Way, Nuneaton, CV10 7RH, email help@silvertimelegal.co.uk, or call 024 7693 9940.

The information we collect

  • Enquiry details. Your name, email address, telephone number, postcode, and whatever you choose to tell us in a message or on a call.
  • Client file information. If you instruct us: your family circumstances, assets and liabilities, the people you name as beneficiaries, executors, trustees or attorneys, and their contact details. Where it is relevant to your instructions, for example to questions of capacity or to a vulnerable person’s trust, we may also record health information.
  • Identity documents. Where we are required to verify who you are, copies of documents such as a passport or driving licence and proof of address.
  • Seminar bookings and talk registrations. Your name, email address, which seminar you booked and when, and whether we have sent your confirmation and joining details. If you tick the optional marketing box, a record of that consent and the exact wording you agreed to. If you ask us to tell you about new seminar dates, your name and email address. Where you came to us through a community group, which group that was.
  • Website usage. Standard server logs, including your IP address, and anything described in our cookie notice.

Health information is special category data under the UK GDPR. We only record it where it genuinely matters to your instructions, and we rely on your explicit consent to do so, which you may withdraw at any time.

If you give us information about other people, such as your beneficiaries, executors or attorneys, you should make sure they are happy for you to do so. We use their details only for the purpose of carrying out your instructions.

Our legitimate interest in running the events people have registered for. These emails are part of administering your booking, and are not marketing.

Your consent, given by completing the register-interest form. You can withdraw it at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us.
Sending occasional updates, news and information about our services and future events
Your consent, given by ticking the optional box, which is never ticked for you and is not a condition of booking. You can withdraw it at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us.

Performance of our contract with you, and our legitimate interest in keeping them safe for as long as you want us to hold them.

Who we share it with

  • Acer Prime Law Limited. Certain documents must, by law, be prepared and submitted by a regulated law firm. Where your matter includes that work, it is carried out by Acer Prime Law Limited, company number 10558502, authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under SRA number 637478. We share with them what they need to do that work, and we pay their costs. For the work they carry out, they are a controller of your information in their own right, and their privacy notice is available at acerprimelaw.co.uk.
  • The Office of the Public Guardian, HMRC and HM Land Registry, where your instructions require a registration or filing, for example registering a Lasting Power of Attorney, registering a trust, or a first registration of property.
  • Render, which hosts this website and our online seminar booking system. Booking records are stored in Render’s data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. Render acts only on our instructions.
  • Our software and IT providers, principally Zoho, whose customer relationship and forms systems we use, hosted in Zoho’s European data centres, together with our website hosting and email providers, all acting on our instructions.
  • Google, in one limited respect: the typefaces on this website load from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google when a page loads.
  • Our insurers and professional advisers, where a complaint or claim requires it.
  • Nobody else, without your express written permission, unless we are legally required to disclose.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Sending information outside the UK

Most of the information we hold stays in the UK or the European Economic Area, which the UK treats as providing adequate protection. Where a provider processes data in the United States, principally Google, or Render where its staff need to access our hosting, the transfer is protected either by the UK–US Data Bridge where the recipient is certified under it, or by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become instructions
12 months from our last contact with you.
Client files
At least 6 years after your matter concludes. Where we prepared your Will, trust or Lasting Power of Attorney, we keep the file for as long as the document may need to be relied on, which is usually until we are told of your death and your estate has been administered, because the file is often the evidence of the document’s validity and of your intentions.
Original documents in storage
For as long as you ask us to store them. They are yours, and we return them on request.
Identity verification records
5 years after our relationship with you ends.
Seminar bookings
24 months after the event, then deleted automatically.
Requests to be told about new seminar dates
Until you ask us to stop, and no longer than 24 months.
Marketing consents
Until you unsubscribe or ask us to stop.
Complaint records
6 years from the complaint being closed.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, and, in some circumstances, to have information erased, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object and we will stop unless we have compelling grounds to continue.

To exercise any of these rights, email help@silvertimelegal.co.uk or write to us at the address above. We will respond within one month, and there is normally no fee.

One honest caveat: some rights have limits in our line of work. We cannot, for example, erase a client file that we are required to keep, or that may be needed to prove a Will after a death. Where a limit applies, we will tell you what it is and why.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first, but you do not have to.

A few other things

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling. Our services are aimed at adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If we ever sell or restructure the business, your information may transfer to the new owner on the same terms as this notice, and we would tell you before it happened.

Changes to this notice

This notice was last updated on 20 August 2026. If we make a material change, we will publish the new version here and, where we hold your email address, tell you directly.
